Langoljam Samu, who is a recipient of the 3rd Governor's Arts Award 2012 for his excellence in the field of fine arts, has started giving arts lectures to 62 inmates of Sajiwa Jail from today.
He volunteered to teach the inmates as it will contribute to the reformation and rehabilitation of the prisoners and their return to normal life in the society.
Fine Arts Room was inaugurated about a month back in Sajiwa Jail following an invitation from DG of Prisons, Tihar Jail, Vimla Mehra for opening stall of vocational prison products including paintings of Jail Department, Manipur at Delhi's Tihar Jail Haat.
IK Muivah, SP Jails of Manipur Central Jail, Imphal and Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa had visited Tihar Jail twice with the most recent being during the All India Conference of Correctional Administrators held on May 15 and 16 at Delhi which was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde.
SP Jails had highlighted the success story of the various reform measures taken up in the two jails of Manipur as a plenary speaker at the conference.
The jail delegates of Manipur also toured Tihar Jail to observe the various functioning of South Asia's largest prison which houses about 12,500 prisoners.
Meanwhile, the Joint Secretary (CS), MHA has given assurance of assistance to the Manipur Jail Department for putting up proposals for starting Jail factory along Tihar model, according to a reliable source.
