AMSU seeks Education Minister's attention

Imphal, May 25 2022: The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has sought immediate attention of the Education Minister to different issues related to the State's education sector.

Congratulating Th Basanta on assuming the charge of Education Minister, the AMSU has submitted a memorandum.

Through the memorandum, the AMSU urged the Education Minister to pay special attention toward raising the budgetary allocation for education sector in order to provide and improve all necessary infrastructure of educational institutes including science laboratories and libraries.

The student body appealed to the Education Minister to make DM University a full-fledged university and properly implement the Manipur Private School Registration and Regulation Act 2017 .

Filling up the vacant posts of the SCERT Director and Principals/Headmasters at Government colleges and schools, and rationalisation of teacher-student ratio are some other points raised by AMSU through their memorandum.

Pointing out that the current utilisation system of teachers is not germane in today's education system, the AMSU urged the Education Minister to do away with the same system.

Improvement of inter-district transport system for the convenience of general public and students, and constitution of an expert committee to implement NEP 2020 with special emphasis on local context were some other demands made by the student body.

The also urged the Education Minister to open skill development and vocational training courses at different colleges and establish more community colleges.

The AMSU further appealed for introduction of State song up to High School level so as to instil Manipuri Nationalism among the younger generations.

It would be more effective if the State Government recommends to print the State song on the back covers of books prescribed by BOSEM, it mentioned.

Introduction of an afforestation programme as a part of environment education for all the students from Junior High School level to Higher Secondary level was another demand placed before the Education Minister.
