Imphal, November 23 2013 :
Police dispersed protest congregation of higher secondary school contract teachers held this morning at the gate of Johnstone Higher Secondary School.
The sit-in-demonstration, to demand service extension as well as clearance pending monthly entitlements, was supposed to be held from around 10 am till 2 pm but a police team arrived at the protect venue and vacated the protestors from the site.
Speaking on behalf of the contract lecturers one W Sajuk said service period of 139 contract lecturers of 23 higher secondaries lapsed in February this year.
In addition to non-extension of service, the contract lecturers are deprived of their monthly entitlements for many months, he claimed while informing that service period of some of their colleagues have already been extended.
Further stating that class boycott agitation from November 1 preceded today's sit-in-protest, Sajuk asserted that more agitation would be launched if there is no positive sign on the demands for service extension as well as release of pending salaries.
