Traditional Boat Race adds glitz to Sangai Fest

As a part of the ongoing Manipur Sangai Festival 2013, Hiyang Tannaba, the traditional Manipuri boat race, was held at Thangapat (moat), located on the southern side of Palace Complex here today.
The boat race was witnessed by Chief Ministers of Mandalay and Sagaing regions U Ye Myint and U Thar Aye respectively and other top delegates from Myanmar including the Indian Ambassador to Myanmar Gautam Mukhopadhyay.
Chief Minister of Manipur O.Ibobi Singh, who was graced the inaugural function of the traditional boat race as Chief Guest, said that in the next year's festival such boat race will be arranged in a better way giving separate timing so that the programmes of the festival do not overlap.
He expressed happiness over organising the traditional event in this year's Sangai Festival where special guests from Myanmar including two Chief Ministers from Myanmar are attending.
In the boat race, Film stars, singer and body builder (former Mr.Asia) participated as Tengmai Leppas.
The event was also attended by was attended by the Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly, Ministers,Parliamentary Secretaries, MLAs and others.
