6th Mangboi Memorial Cup'13 kicks off

The 6th edition of Late Mangboi Memorial Cup 2013 has been kicked off today at Brig M Thomas Ground, Kanggui with a significant opening ceremony graced by Thangso Baite, MP as chief guest and Nemcha Kipgen, MLA,50-Kangpokpi AC as guest of honour while Haokholal Hangshing, Chairman, ADC Sadar Hills attended the function as funcional president.
The Kanggui Town Committee along with several village chiefs welcome the dignitaries with a traditional Gong and blowing of trumpet as a mark of goodwill.
The MP hoisted the flag of the tournament before a condolence service was observed with a minute silence in honour of Late Mangboi who had been a significant signatory of the Kukis killed by State force on his return to Manipur from New Delhi after a talk with the GoI.
"Sports and war cannot go together in one path", asserted the MP while adding that in sports there is peace, unity, cooperation and support.
"The rapid growing of the people's love for sports among the Kukis in particular and the people of Manipur signifies the people's preference of peace to war", noted the MP.
Nemcha Kipgen, the local MLA stressed the important of sports in bringing the society develop the attitude of oneness, discipline and concern among the poeple as well as mentally, physically and spiritually mature.
Haokholal Hangshing, Chairman ADC Sadar Hills asserted that young blood of the society particularly sports lovers should adopt the spirit of self integrity, patient and determination to be a successful person in life.
A part from the dignitaries and general public EMs, MDCs of ADC Sadar Hills, chief of various villages, Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills, KSO-SH, KTC, KWWO, KYU, Reverends, Pastors, etc also attended the function.
Kuki prominent Gospel artistes Lamneilhing, Esther and Nemsiamhoi enthralled the congregation with their melodious songs.
An exhibition match between M.Songgel Youth Club, CCpur (winner of Super Div League) and JSYC, Sadar Hills (winner of Winner's Cup 2011-12) ended with a goalless draw.
Cash award of Rs 5,000/- each has been awarded to the exhibition match team.
The first match of the tournament was played between LHMT, Motbung and GMFC, Kanggui after the exhibition match where GMFC, Kanggui routed LHMT, Motbung by 6-2 .
