7th Manipur Polo International kicks start

As part of the ongoing Manipur Sangai Festival 2013, the 7th Manipur Polo International kicked off at Mapal Kangjeibung, Imphal today in the presence of Chief Minister of Manipur O.Ibobi, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Chief Minister of Mandalay U YE MYINT, Chief Minister of Sagaing U THAR AYE.
The tournament which will continue till November 28 is being participated by a total of five teams, out of which three teams are represented by foreign countries like Germany, Thailand and USA.
The other two teams are Team A (representing the International Polo Association) and Team B (representing the state, Manipur).
To mark the occasion, the Chief Minister of Manipur also launched a website on the Polo game, www.manipurponysociety.org.
Speaking on the occasion, Ibobi express his happiness and said that the day would be remembered in history as one of the important days as it has been colored by the presence of foreign dignitaries and guests.
On the game of Polo, which is also known as Sagol Kangjei, he said that we should feel indebted to our forefathers who had handed over this famous game to the present world.
Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur Gaikhangam expressed that even though Manipur is a small state in India, it is a state enriched with cultural heritage and rich history.
'Modern Polo is a game which Manipur has contributed to the world and we, the people want to preserve Polo as the common man's game.
This is a small way of contributing our mite to the growth of the noble game all over the world', he added.
