Imphal, November 23 2013 :
Out of the nine districts of Manipur, Tam-englong remains the most back- ward district in terms of road connectivity.
It takes almost three hours to travel just 39 Kms from NH 37 to the district headquarters.
The irony is that the State Govt, since the past few years, has been working with new zeal and vigour to promote tourism industry where- as Tamenglong district which has enormous tourism potential remains worst connected.
Understandably, people of the district have many grievances against the Govt. The road to Tamenglong district HQs from NH 37 starts from Khongshang.
It takes almost three hours to cover the 39 Kms long road.
Throughout the length of the road, one would not find any portion which is a little better off.
The whole surface of the road is broken and it is irritatingly bumpy.
Forget about non-local tourists, even locals would not like to visit Tamen-glong district given such pathetic condition of roads.

On being contacted, one PWD official said that they simply march in and repair the road for the same road is under the care of BRO.
Like the Jiri highway, the road connecting Tamenglong district headquarters to NH 37 has become synonymous with bad road.
An official, on condition of anonymity, appealed to the Government to remember the road like the oranges grown in the district.
For Govt officials posted at the district headquarters, it takes them around nine hours to reach Imphal.
