Imphal, August 18 2021:
The Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has strongly denounced the Government run Higher Secondary Schools over its notifications regarding cut off marks (in percentage) of students for admission to Class XI in the respective schools and demanded immediate revocation of the notifications.
MSF, in a release noted that Class X Examinations conducted by Board of Secondary School Manipur and Central Board of Secondary School were cancelled this year and students were promoted owing to the Covid pandemic.
However, it is unfortunate to come across notifications of Higher Secondary Schools under Government of Manipur giving details of cut-off marks of Class X passed students belonging to different categories (UR, OBC and ST/SC) for admission to XI in Science, Arts and Commerce streams, said MSF.
As per the result announced by the Board of Higher Secondary School Manipur recently, 22,323 (47.29 percent) students cleared Class X examination in first division; 21,079 (44.65 percent) in second division and 3806 (8.06 percent) in third division.
Since the pass percentage this year is exceptionally high the Government should make necessary arrangements to increase the intake capacity of students by augmenting existing infrastructure.
But Government Higher Secondary Schools are issuing notifications of cut off marks thereby quashing the aspiration of many students who want to pursue study but fall short of the prescribed cut off marks.
Such notifications, which prove to be discriminatory to aspiring students should be revoked at the earliest or the Government should conduct online examinations to assess actual qualification of students and do justice, it said.
MSF further stated that it will be conducting a survey to study infrastructure of Higher Secondary Schools across the State.
