Imphal, March 12 2016 :
The Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) has raised strong objection against the State Government's plan to grant full fledged district status to Jiribam and Sadar Hills and termed it as Government's policy of attempting to create division and communal disharmony among the various communities of the State.
It said that the Zeliangrong people have been demanding for merger of all the Zeliang-rong villages which were bifurcated and included in the Sadar sub-division to re-integrate and merge with Tamenglong district and their long pending genuine demand should be materialized first prior to declaration of Sadar Hills as a full-fledged district.
In regards to Jiribam sub-division, it stated that the State Government's plan to upgrade it into full-fledged district without conducting public hearing seeking views and opinions regarding the matter lack transparency and said that the Zeliangrong people will not oppose its upgradation, but any attempt to include any Zeliangrong village into the proposed Jiribam district creation without the knowledge and consent of the people will not be tolerated.
It also stated that any wrong decision taken by the State Government while ignoring the long genuine demand and aspiration of Zeliangrong people at the behest of other communities will be strongly reacted in befitting manner for which consequences shall be borne by the State Government, said a press release issued by the president of ZYF.
