Impact of COVID-19 on health and education in children deliberated

The 25th MANIPEDICON 2021 was held at the conference hall of Indian Medical Association (IMA) at Lamphelpat today.
The programme was organised by the Pediatric Association of Manipur (PAM) under the theme 'The impact of COVID-19 on health and education in children'.
Speaking as the chief guest of the occasion, former professor and Head of Department of Pediatrics, RIMS and JNIMS, Dr L Brajamohon Singh said that IMA has been organising conferences at the State, national and international level on different topics.
Today's programme has been organised to discuss the impact of COVID-19 pandemic especially on the children, he added.
President of PAM, Dr H Jashobanta Singh elaborated on the harmful impacts of COVID-19 on the education and health of the children.
He further maintained that owing tb the ongoing pandemic, the children are confined at home getting no time to play and interact with others making them dependent on mobile phones, TV thereby increasing the screen time considerably.
Such sedentary habits have a negative impact on their mental and physical health leading to many psychological problems like anxiety, depression and so on, he added.
He went on to state that today's programme has been held to discuss and spread awareness on the aforementioned impacts and how to take care and help the children accordingly.
The event was also attended by Dr Kh Ratankumar Singh, Managing Director, Mother's Care Children Hospital and Research Centre and Imphal Heart Institute and Dr Shyamkumar Laishram, Executive body member Central IAP as the presidium members among others.
