Imphal, April 26 2016:
Manipur BJP has said successful implementation of National Food Security Act in the State would be impossible as the Government has failed to distribute ration cards to the beneficiaries.
State BJP president Thounaojam Chaoba claimed this to the media while welcoming three new members who joined the party fold today during a simple function at the party office here.
"How can the Government ensure full implementation of the food scheme since the beneficiaries are not getting their ration cards.
It's totally unworkable," Chaoba said.
Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh launched NFSA in the State yesterday.
The BJP Manipur Pradesh chief alleged that the Congress Government selected beneficiaries from the well-to-do families by claiming to uplift the poor through the scheme.
"Implementation of NFSA in Manipur is now ridiculous.
It's not possible.
We do not see fair price shops till date," he said.
Chaoba, a former MP, said MLAs would not be allowed to store rice meant for the scheme at their homes and the grain should be kept at fair price shops only.
"Stealing rice by making the public happy with the promise to provide them rice at Rs 3 per kg will not be allowed to happen.
We're now approaching the law Court to stop legislators from hoarding rice at their homes," he said.
"It seems the Government is hiding the scope of the plan with regard to distribution of rice to beneficiaries under NFSA," Chaoba added.
