Imphal, April 26 2016:
The All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO) has called for sanity and peaceful settlement of the case regarding the suspicious death of Sagolsem Prashanta alias Abung (23) s/o S Roshan of Kakwa Nameirakpam Leikai, who was reportedly found hung at Lilong Haoreibi Awang Leikai.
Addressing media persons today at its headquarters, president of AMUCO Dr Y Mani Khuman said that unfortunately a particular community has been targeted after the fateful incident where two youths were killed on alleged charge of vehicle lifting at Mayang Imphal, Sangai Sabi recently.
Several houses and shops owned by a particular community were targeted right after the incident.
Such incidents could invite a communal flare-up among different ethnic communities of Manipur, he said.
Timely intervention by the State Govt and its machinery will prevent such incidents in future, he said.
Dr Mani said each and every community should have a broad outlook and civilized mindset in a multi-ethnic State like Manipur.
He further urged the State Govt to take up prompt steps to stop such antisocial and communal elements by awarding stringent punishment in the highest level.
At the same time, Committee of Civil Societies Kangleipak (CCSK), Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur (PLMPAM) and All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) have urged the State Govt to conduct a prompt and thorough probe into the suspicious death of Prasanta.
In a statement, CCSK said that the incident needs thorough investigation while also appealing to all concerned to maintain calm and not to create communal tension without ascertaining the truth.
CCSK also pledged support to any steps taken by the JAC formed in connection with the death of Prasanta.
PLMPAM and AMAWOVA in a joint statement urged the authority concerned to probe the incident and punish the guilty so that communal enmity is avoided.
