Imphal, April 26 2016:
Decrying the existing mode of Public Distribution System (PDS) in the State, the Manipur State Council, CPI has today expressed strong apprehension that the National Food Security Act (NFSA) launched yesterday would be implemented in a transparent manner and urged the State Government to implement it in the right manner.
Dr M Nara, president, Manipur State Council, CPI stated this during a press meet held at the party office at Irawat Bhawan today.
He said that his party welcomes the implementation of NFSA in the State.
He said that the CPI and other Left Parties in the Parliament have been pressing the Central Government for the implementation of the Act since long time back.
Decrying that the existing PDS in the State is only done to the delight of some contractors, agents and MLAs, Nara said that the NFSA in the State would only make such people filled their pockets and it will make the Government's claim to give benefit to 74% of the State's population a disaster.
Nara also urged the Government to make the list of actual beneficiaries of the Act and also the godowns public for the sake of transparency.
He also said that the Government's initiative to recruit 2300 policemen after keeping the previous recruitment process pending is nothing but a ploy to collect bribe for use in the coming elections.
Dr Nara also demanded the Govt to improve the conditions of aided schools and colleges in the State.
Asserting that CPI and other Left parties want free and fair conduct of the ensuing IMC elections, Dr Nara challenged the Congress and BJP whether they are in for a free and fair poll.
He also informed that the CPI and Left parties will be fielding candidates on the secular and democratic principles.
Dr Nara further lauded Mary Kom on her being nominated as the Rajya Sabha Member and wished her a fruitful career in the Parliament.
