World Anti-Malaria Day

World Anti Malaria Day was observed today at the border village of Behiang under the joint aegis of Caritas India/DSSS and the District Vector Borne Disease Control Society (DVBDCS) with over 300 village elders and chiefs from the adjoining villages attending the observation alongside school going children.
As part of the observation, students took out a rally, holding banners and placards inscribed with messages that urged people to prevent and combat Malaria.
District Malaria Officer (DMO) Dr Liankhozam spoke at length about common reasons behind prevalence of Malaria particularly in Behiang village and the need to combat the disease.
He said, Behiang being a border village with Myanmar is susceptible to the disease and advised the villagers and the people in the adjoining areas to always use mosquito nets in their beds.
He also deliberated on several other measures to counter the disease.
The Malaria Department will be distributing LLIN mosquito nets to the villagers very soon, Dr Liankhozam assured.
Suanlyan Tunung, DPO/DSSS Caritas, India spoke on the Intensified Malaria Control Programme � 3 (IMCP) and the role played by DSSS and Caritas India in implanting the programme.
A seminar on education and social change in Behiang area was also conducted as part of the observation with Chinlunthang, president UZO; Suanlyan Tungnung, vice-president, ZSP and T Ginzamang, Assistant Professor, Churachandpur Government College addressing the seminar.
