RAISE-NE to be launched today

Regional Action on Inclusive Education in North East (RAISE-NE), a project initiated to complement the programme of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) on inclusive education to improve the quality of education for children with disabilities in Government and Government aided schools, will be launched tomorrow at Rengkai in Churachandpur.
Addressing media persons today at Manipur Press Club, Project Director of RAISE-NE Bibhu Dutta Sahu said that the five-year project, to be implemented in Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur and Tripura, is supported by three international NGOs � Liliane Fonds, Light for the World and Christoffel Blinden Mission.
Churachandpur based Centre for Community Initiative (CCI) will be the partner in the implementation of the project in Manipur, Bibhu Dutta said.
The project will be implemented in five Govt and Govt aided schools of Churachandpur as the first phase, Dutta said.
Providing technical support to teachers of the selected schools, to build capacity of teachers for teaching children with special needs, regularly monitor the selected schools to ultimately shape them into inclusive are amongst other objectives of the project, Dutta Sahu said.
Highlighting the works to be taken up under the project, Ms Sweet, Coordinator of RAISE-NE said CCI is among the 15 NGOs which will implement the project in the five NE States.
Two teachers each from the selected schools will be provided training on inclusive education.
Exposure visits, exchange programmes, improving teaching equipment and introducing teachers to new methods of teaching will be parts of the project, she said.
