State Govt decides to hand over case to Central agency

Even though the State Police have registered an unidentified death (UD) case in connection with the discovery of eight human skulls and a number of skeletal remains from Tombisana High School campus on December 25 and 26, the State Government has decided to hand over the same case to either CBI or NIA.
Briefing media persons at Congress Bhavan here today, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam stated that either CBI or NIA would be roped in to investigate the recent discovery of eight human skulls and a number of skeletons.
Meanwhile, a press release issued by N Ashok Kumar, Secretary to the Chief Minister informed that considering the sensitivity, complexity and technical issues involved in the investigation, the State Government has decided to hand over the case to any Central investigation agency viz; CBI, NIA or CFSL to investigate and establish the facts.

A Cabinet meeting held in the evening endorsed the Government's decision and resolved to hand over the case to CBI.
The State Government has also sent a letter to the DOPT and CBI to this effect.
Certain portions of Tombisana High School Campus have been sealed.
If any more excavation should be done, it should be done in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and the whole process would be recorded in video, said PHE Minister I Hemochandra after the Cabinet meeting.
Usually laboratory tests for identification of unknown human skulls and skeletons are conducted at Kolkata.
If the people want it, the skulls and the skeletons discovered from the erstwhile Tombisana High School campus can be sent to a foreign country for necessary laboratory tests, Gaikhangam said earlier in the day.
Noting that the mysterious discovery has disturbed the collective psyche of the people, the Deputy Chief Minister maintained that the Government is also deeply concerned with the issue.
In view of the series of bomb blasts which killed many people in Imphal city recently, foot patrolling exercise in and around the capital city by police would be intensified further.
Some individuals suspected to be involved in the bomb blast at Khoyathong bus parking have been apprehended.
Likewise, a couple of individuals suspected to have carried out the grenade attack at Uripok have also been pulled up.
All these suspects are being verified.
In case, they are found to be responsible for the violent attacks, they should get befitting punishment according to law.
On the contrary, if they are found to be innocent, they will be set free with honour.
According to police report, all the accused pulled up in connection with the grenade attack at Uripok are cadres of KYKL.
Nonetheless, they are being cross examined to find out whether they were behind the grenade attack or not.
Gaikhangam also lauded the police personnel who were able to zero in and pull up suspects soon after the bomb blasts and the grenade attack.
Informing that Indian born British National Anthony Coutinho has been lodged in prison, Gaikhangam stated that his case is being examined minutely.
The Deputy Chief Minister also went to Tombisana High School campus where a new market complex is being constructed and conducted a direct assessment of the spot from where human skulls and skeletons were discovered.
The Deputy Chief Minister was accompanied by the DGP and other top police officers.
