Republic Day held amid boycott call

Like in other parts of the country, the 63rd Republic Day of India was celebrated across the State on Thursday, January 26, amid the boycott call given by underground organisations.
The main celebration was held at Kangla with Governor Gurbachan Jagat as chief guest.
The Governor inspected the guard of honour of a contingent of 7th IRB commanded by Assistant Commandant of 1st Manipur Rifles, Hijam Gyaneshwor Singh.
Gurbachan Jagat unfurled the Indian tricolour amidst playing of the National Anthem by a band contingent of 1st MR. Later, the Governor took salute of 62 different march past contingents comprising of security forces, band parties, cultural troupes and tableaux of different State Government Departments.
5th IRB Commandant Faumei Gonglin was parade commander.
Earlier, the chief guest decorated the Chief Head Warder of Central Jail Sajiwa, Athokpam Ibotombi Singh, Assistant Jailor of Central Jail Sajiwa, Ningombam Hemanta Singh and Warder of Central Jail Sajiwa, Thangjam Nabakumar Singh with Correctional Service Medals.
The Governor also presented Gallantry Award of Meritorious Service to Fireman of Manipur Fire Service, Surchandra Singh Khaidem.
He also decorated Sub-Inspector S Ibetombi and Rifleman Ajay Prakash with Police Medals for Gallantry and Churachandpur SP Koijam Radhashyam with President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service.

The Governor conferred Police Medals for Meritorious Service on 2nd IRB Commandant Mamta Wahengbam, CID (SB) SP Achin Haokip, Imphal West Additional SP Chaoba Singh, 1st MR Assistant CO Ch Bimol Singh, MPTC Subedar Piangkham Muan Vaiphei, 1st IRB Jamadar Kh Ghanashyam and MPTC Havildar Kizhuvalath Venu Gopal.
Chandel : The district administration of Chandel district also celebrated Republic Day at Maha Union Government Higher Secondary School ground with DC Th Chittaranjan as the chief guest yesterday.
The DC took salute of march past of 20 contingents.
Senapati: Republic Day was celebrated at Senapati DC Office Complex with DC PK Jha as the chief guest.
He unfurled the tricolour and took salute of march past contingent of the 4th IRB.
Churachandpur: Churachandpur DC Jacintha Lazarus unfurled the National flag in the celebration organised by district administration at Churachandpur public ground yesterday.
Certificate of appreciations were presented to 46 dedicated Government employees of the district by the DC.
She also took salute of 25 march past contingents.
School children and cultural troupes also presented cultural items.
Ukhrul: DC R Sudan unfurled the National flag and took salute of 22 different march past contingents in the Republic Day celebration held at Tangkhul Naga Long ground yesterday.
Tamenglong: DC C Arthur was the chief guest held at Lower ground, Tamenglong.
20 march past contingents took part in the celebration.
Thoubal: Republic Day was also celebrated at Basu Ground, Khangabok with DC K Radhakumar as the chief guest.
March past contingents comprising of police, VDF personnel, Home Guards and school students took part in the celebration.
Imphal East: Republic Day was also celebrated at Porompat DC Office complex with DC RK Dinesh as the chief guest.
Bishnupur: DC M Laxmikumar unfurled the National flag in the Republic Day celebration organised in Bishnupur.
Police, army personnel and school students took part in the celebration.
Jiribam: ADC Y Iboyaima unfurled the National flag in the celebration organised at ADC office complex, Jiribam.
People from different communities took part in the celebration.
Kangpokpi: ADC H Rupachandra was the chief guest of the Republic Day celebration organised at Kangpokpi.
He unfurled the National flag.
