MK Binodini memorial lecture held

This year's MK Binodini Devi Memorial Lecture was jointly organised by the Department of Art and Culture and the MK Binodini Devi Foundation on Friday at Maharaja Chandrakriti Auditorium, Palace Gate on the occasion of her 93rd birth anniversary.
Chief guest at the function, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi described Binodini as a reverent figure who made a huge contribution to the growth of arts and culture in Manipur and expressed heartfelt gratefulness on being invited to her memorial function.
People remember her for the successful literary works but we should not forget that she was multi-faceted person who made her mark even in the field of politics and served as a member of the territorial council, he stated.
Her field of excellence spanned several areas including films, culture, fine arts, women empowerment, he stated.

Ibobi's speech also showered praises on Booker Prize nominee and Sahitya Akademi winning writer Amitav Ghosh and delved on his interest for the happenings in eastern India and south east Asia.
He expressed happiness that the eminent writer chose to read his new book 'Flood of Fire' to the audience present on the auspicious day, pointing out that it was the first time the Amitav had interacted in this way with the audience in his career.
He commended the writer for presenting the English translation of MK Binodini's novel 'Churachandgi Imung Manung' under the English title 'The Maharaja Household-A Daughter's Memories of Her Father' at the Jaipur Literature Festival' .
Later director of Anjika Manipur Dance Company, Priti Patel presented the Manipuri premiere of the 'Black Swan: The Chosen One.' MK Binodini was the founder patron of the company whose 20th birth anniversary also falls today.
