Strive for welfare of public: Rishang urges MLAs, Ministers

The active participation of politicians is a pre-requisite for achieving development on equal footing in both the valley and hill areas, stated former chief minister Rishang Keishing on Friday while speaking at the reception of PWD minister of Manipur Dr Kh Ratankumar on receiving the Glory of India award.
Speaking as the chief guest of the function at Khuman Mini Stadium, Rishang stated that Manipur is a state inhabited by many communities and equal emphasis should be given to both hills and valley districts while initiating development programme in order to rule out disparity.
The proposal of a project for building a road which will connect the district headquarters of the state had been submitted to the Centre, he informed while expressing hopes that the Centre will invest its resources for extensive development of Manipur considering its special needs as a border state.
He appealed to the ministers and the MLAs to strive for the welfare of the public with a sacrificial spirit.
Dr Ratankumar stated that he was given the honour for his contributions in improving the relationship between India and Thailand.
He envisaged that Manipur will prove to be an important nerve point in the highway linking South East Asian countries with India.
There is an imperative need for every people of the state to acquire awareness about the Trans Asian highway, he stated informing that the process for commencing the Imphal-Mandalay highway has been intensified.
He further announced that the Centre had given its approval on sanctioning Rs 1,200 crores for the Imphal Ring Road.
The process for floating the tender for the same will be started soon, he stated.
