Imphal, February 062015 : SSB, Lucknow, ARC-Shillong, Hockey Union, and KhSC have marched into the semifinal stage of the inaugural Wahengbam Thoibi Devi Challenge Hockey Trophy being hosted at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium.

SSB will clash with ARC in the first semis for a place in the summit clash while the second semifinal match will be a local affair between HU, Lairikyengbam Leikai and KhSC, Khongman.

Both games will be played on Saturday.

The first quarterfinal match between ARC-Shillong and YCCIC, Ahallup turned out to be a one-sided tie with the former winning 16-1 in the end.

N Heramani led the list of goal scorers with three to his name, coming in the third, fourth and 51st minutes, ahead of a pack of four teammates who scored a brace namely Lalinheta (9th and 57th), N Leejohn ( second and fifth), Th Hemjit (11th and 43rd), and Th Bunty (28th and 46th).Ramsin (12th), Th Ojit (14) and Chinmoi Boro (30th) also scored one goal each.

The consolation goal for YCCIC came from the stick of Vikram in the 34th minute.

On the other hand, SSB had to toil harder to fend off the challenge from All Moirang Hockey Association, ultimately winning 5-2 with the help of a hattrick from O Gunamani.

However, it was his teammate H Surchandra who drew first blood in the 15th minute.

L Jaychandra extended the lead with the second goal in the 25th minute and Gunamani scored three in a row in the 32nd, 56th and 69th minutes.

The goals for the losing team were scored by M Rabichandra and Th Romeshkumar in the 42nd and 64th minutes.

HU earned a berth in the semifinal on virtue of a 8-2 victory over SEYO, Singjamei riding on three goals from M Dhananjoy which came in the 23rd, 34th and 52nd minutes.

His compatriot Th Kingson (17th and 32nd minutes) and P Pakesh (8th and 19th) contributed two goals each while RK Anajit (13th) scored the other goal.

Both goals for SEYO came from Ksh Nelson (26th and 60th) .

The final quarterfinal match featuring KhSC and PHAM, Yaiskul ended 7-4 in favour of the Khongman outfit.

The winners opened the goal floodgate in the first minute itself through Th Kiran Kumar, who scored the team's third goal in the 17th minute four minutes after N Roheshkumar fired the second goal.

However, the star for KhSC was N Dipu who troubled the scoreboard three times ( 41st, 43rd and 62nd).Th Henthoi was the other scorer finding the mark in the 52nd minute.

Y Nelson was the most successful player for the losing team with two goals under his kitty, coming in the 49th and 63rd minute, while Amarjit Goswami (28th) and K Debeshwor (58) scored one goal apiece.
