ANSU Chakpikarong holds public meeting on climate change, dam

Anal Naga Student Union (ANSU) Chakpikarong Branch (Anal Lenruwl Tangpi), Chandel on Friday held a public meeting and a rally on Climate Change and Dam supported by North East Dialogue Forum and other civil society organizations at Chakpi-karong Public Playground, Chandel District.
The rally concluded at Sub-Divisional Office, Chakpikarong Block, Chandel District.
Over 1,500 people were participated in the mass rally.
The main resource person of the meeting cum rally were Ng.
Ngamlung Anal, Vice President, Naga Peoples Front and Jiten Yumnam, Secretary, Centre for Research and Advocacy Manipur.
An ANSU press note said the villages to be affected by the proposed Dam project in the areas include Tarao, Monsang, Moyon, Lamkang, Kuki, Anal etc.
Further 15 Anal villages within the catchment area will have their properties (Jhum fields, community land) submerged by the reservoir.

Also the construction of Chakpi Multipurpose Project will affect more than 65 villages and not 44 as per the record of the Government which was published before the approval of the project.
The rally cum public meeting recommended that the Government of India should stop all efforts to construct the proposed Tipaimukh Multipurpose Hydroelectric Project in Manipur till the free, prior and informed consent of all affected communities are taken with.
