Dy CM hits back at BJP over PR demand

Hitting back at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its scathing attack on the State government's performance, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has charged the saffron party of creating trouble in Manipur.
Blaming the Ibobi-led Congress government of rampant corruption, financial mismanagement, misgovernance and under-performance, the BJP Manipur Pradesh had on Thursday demanded the imposition of President's Rule under Article 356 of the Indian Constitution.
In his defense against the allegation of the BJP, Gaikhangam who is also the MPCC chief asserted that there is no crisis in Manipur demanding the imposition of Article 356 of the Indian Constitution.
There is no constitutional crisis in Manipur which the state government is unable to control.
Manipur BJP unit should remember the infamous Gujarat Riots of 2002 when Centre did not impose President's Rule despite the fact that the crisis was beyond the control of the state government, Gaikhangam said.
Clarifying on the state BJP president's allegation of poor utilization of annual plan outlay for the current financial year, the MPCC president said that the figure which was given by BJP president was not true.
State BJP president Th Chaoba had alleged that only 29.25 percent of the total Rs 3200 crore annual outlay has been utilized although the financial year would close in the next two months.
Gaikhangam said that government has so far spent above 80 percent of the plan outlay and thus no question of mismanagement of fund arose.
The deputy chief minister was responding to queries from reporters on the sideline of the inaugural function of a two-day workshop on popularization of low-cost poly house for sustainable production of horticulture crop in NE, organized by Precision Farming Development Centre of Central Agricultural University (CAU) at the conference hall of the university.
Addressing the function as chief guest, the deputy chief minister urged farmers of the state to apply the latest technical know-how to enhance agricultural production, asserting that the advancement of the state depends on the farmers.
He said that cultivable land of the state is very limited compared to its population and it was hard to feed the ever increasing population.
In order to handle the situation, farmers of the state need to find out ways to enhance production in the state.
Farmers need to adopt new technologies and traditional method of farming side by side.
They should think of maximum product from minimum area, he said.
He further said that the state should give emphasis on power, tourism and other sectors which have the potential of economic development of the state.
