New cases see spurt with 35 more, 2 deaths

Imphal, January 04 2022:
Manipur witnessed a disturbing spurt in the number of new cases in the last 24 hours with 35 people, including five Central security personnel, testing positive for the virus.
The 35 new cases were detected while testing a total of 2245 samples to take the daily positivity rate to 1.6 percent.
On December 31 the State reported 10 new cases, 19 on December 31, 16 on January 1 and 20 on January 3 .
The 35 new cases were detected even as the Chairman of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization, Dr NK Arora claimed that the third wave is on in the country with 75 percent of new cases in the metros coming from Omicron variant.
Manipur also witnessed 2 deaths in the last 24 hours from Imphal East and Kangpokpi.
With the addition of two more, the total number of deaths is now 2006 .
Of the two deceased persons, one had received the first jab of the vaccine while the other was unvaccinated, said the COVID-19 Deaths Audit Committee.
The 30 civilians who tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours are from Imphal East (9), Imphal West (8), Thoubal (5), Bishnupur (3), Kakching (3), Chandel (1) and Churachandpur (1) .
All necessary precautionary measures including contact tracing and containment measures have been taken up, claimed the COVID-19 Common Control Room in a statement.
With the addition of 35 new cases, the cumulative number of positive cases in the State now stands at 1,25,878 including 4446 Central security personnel.
The number of active cases is now 257 inclusive of 12 Central security personnel.
In the last 24 hours five persons were discharged from home isolation (4) and JNIMS (1) to take the cumulative number of recovered cases to 1,23,615 including 4429 Central security personnel.
The recovery rate is now 98.20 percent.
On January 3, a total of 5443 vaccines were administered and the cumulative number of vaccines given is 23,22,386 including 9,94,368 second dose.
A total of 214 D Type Oxygen cylinders and 64 B Type Oxygen cylinders were made available to different health centres across the State in the last 24 hours.
Jiribam district sits at the top of the vaccination table with 58.78 percent of the eligible population having received the second dose of the vaccine and 71.47 percent the first dose.
Imphal West is next with 57.84 percent of the people having received the second dose and 73.54 the first dose.
At Imphal East 53.15 percent have received the full dose and 70.22 percent the first dose.
