Imphal, January 31 2020:
All the seven MLAs elected on Congress tickets but have been supporting the coalition Government led by Chief Minister N Biren are still Congress MLAs as per rules, claimed MLA Y Surchandra who is representing Kakching Assembly segment.
Notably, MLAs Y Surchandra, O Lukhoi, S Bira, Ksh Biren, Ngamthang Haokip, Ginsuanhau Zou and P Brojen have been supporting the BJP-led coalition Govt even though they were all elected on Congress tickets.
Talking to The Sangai Express, Y Surchandra said that as per bulletins and who's who of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, all seven of them are still Congress MLAs.

"During Assembly sessions, all of us sit on the Opposition bench.
As such, we are still Congress MLAs.
The question of MLA Th Shyamkumar is another matter', Surchandra said.
Admitting that there are certain cases of supporting BJP from inside and joining the party (BJP), Surchandra maintained that they would plead the Speaker's Tribunal despite all these facts.
"We never submitted any resignation letter to the Congress.
Even if we had submitted resignation letters, it needs approval of the Congress party", he said.
It is not enough even if BJP Manipur Pradesh president K Bhabananda has submitted resignation letter to Chief Minister N Biren.
Likewise, resignation letters should be submitted to the Congress president and the Congress president should decide whether the resignation letters should be approved or not, Surchandra said.
Nonetheless, following a directive of the Supreme Court, the Speaker's Tribunal has fixed February 4 for the final hearing of the disqualification case of Th Shyamkumar while the disqualification case of the seven other MLAs would be heard on February 11.In case the Speaker's Tribunal rules that the seven MLAs are still Congress MLAs, Congress party's strength would surge substantially in the State Assembly and the party may even manoeuvre to topple the incumbent Government and form a Government of their own, sources said.
At the same time, BJP would definitely take up all necessary measures so as to ensure that the Supreme Court's directive does not affect the coalition Government, the sources added.
