Teachers to take mass casual leave from today

Despite the "School Fagathansi" slogan taken up by the State Government with gusto, three teachers' bodies namely the Government Higher Secondary Lecturers' Welfare Association, All Manipur Primary Teachers' Association and Graduate Teachers' Association today announced that they will take mass casual leave from tomorrow against the recently passed Manipur Services (Revision Pay) Rules 2019 order which has allegedly downgraded their pay to the 5th Pay of 2009.Speaking to the media at Johnstone Higher Secondary School today, general secretary of Manipur Government Higher Secondary Lecturers' Welfare Association, M Jadumani stated that the revision of pay has downgraded their pay package and the decision to go on mass casual leave from tomorrow was taken during an emergency meeting of the teachers' bodies today.
The emergency meeting was held at Johnstone Higher Secondary School.
During the meeting the recent order was thoroughly studied, discussed, analysed and a resolution to go on mass casual leave from tomorrow was taken, he added.
The teachers will also storm the office of the Education Director tomorrow.
Jadumani said that the teachers are ready intensify their agitation until and unless the State Government rectifies the wrongs in the Revision of Pay 2019.The decision of the State Government is a total betrayal of the teaching community, he said and added that this has come about even as they have submitted memoranda to the State Government to rectify the present pay scale and even after meeting the Chief Minister, Education Minister and the Education Director.
The pay scale of other departments in the recently passed Manipur Services (Revision of Pay) has not been affected, he added.
After the media briefing, a copy of the Manipur Services (Revision of Pay) 2019 was burnt as a mark of protest.
