Imphal, July 19 2019:
The All Manipur Hills & Valley Individual Surrender Welfare Association has threatened to launch different forms of agitation including hunger strike from July 26 in case the surrenderees are not given suitable jobs by July 25 .
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, the association's spokesperson Abdul Latif said that the State Cabinet purportedly adopted a resolution on May 21, 2017 to absorb surrenderees in security forces by relaxing requisite educational qualification as well as age limit provided they are physically fit.
The term surrenderee is attached with a stigma in the society and most people look upon surrenderees with disdain.
As majority of the people do not like to hire surrenderees for any type of job, the surrenderees have been facing a very difficult situation in search of jobs and employment, even menial ones.
As such, they have been enduring extreme misery in search of livelihood and other basic requirements such as educational expenses for children, Abdul Latif said.
He lamented that there has been no response till date even though the association submitted an application to the Chief Minister seeking an appointment.
Decrying that the Government has shown least concern to the plight of surrenderees, the spokesperson cautioned that different modes of indefinite agitation would be launched if the association's demand is not addressed satisfactorily this time.
He also urged the Government to deliver all the due benefits entitled to surrendered militants.
Meanwhile, K Inaobi Singh has been appointed president of the All Manipur Hills & Valley Individual Surrender Welfare Association while Th Sanahanba, O Hemanjit and Md Abdul Latif have been appointed as secretary, joint secretary and spokesperson respectively.
