Imphal, July 19 2019:
The Joint Students Coordination Committee (JSCC) has served an ultimatum to the State Government to revoke its notification of re-engaging the retired Deputy Resident Commissioner (DRC) of Manipur Bhavan, Kolkata to the same post in the name of Officer on Special Duty (OSD) .
Speaking to media persons at the Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai office of MSF this afternoon, JSCC convenor Manjit Sarangthem said that the State Government should revoke or cancel the notification whereby DRC S Memcha Devi Roy has been re-engaged to the same post as OSD within five days.
If the notification is not cancelled or revoked within five days, JSCC would launch different modes of agitation at Imphal as well as Kolkata in association with Manipur Students' Association, Kolkata, Manjit said.
Memcha Devi Roy retired from the post of DRC on May 31 this year.
After coming back to Imphal, she lobbied hard with authorities concerned subsequent upon which GAD issued a notification on July 12 whereby she has been re-engaged as DRC (OSD), Manipur Bhavan, Kolkata.
She again took charge of the DRC on July 18.Manjit said that Memcha was running the Manipur Bhavan as her private residence.
JSCC has been urging the State Government to investigate into appointment of some non-local people in Manipur Bhavan, Kolkata by Memcha and award befitting punishment to the DRC if she is found guilty, he reminded.
It is matter of grave concern that the State Government reengaged the retired DRC instead of instituting an enquiry into the dubious appointment she made.
It is also rather surprising if one sees the re-engagement of S Memcha in the light of the BJP-led Government's bold declaration to do away with the practice of extending service periods of retired officers or re-engaging them as OSD, remarked the JSCC convenor.
