Imphal, April 28: Capping off their protests against the monetary demands served on them, altogether 150 Councillors from Municipality Councils and Nagar Panchayats, barring the members of the Imphal Municipal Council submitted their resignation letters to the Chief Minister today evening.

The Councillors made their way towards the Chief Minister's official bungalow from Keishampat where a sit-in-protest was held.

Following the intense monetary demands served on them by underground outfits, the Councillors have been staging a protest at Keishampat since April 15 .

Incidentally Chief Minister O Ibobi is also the Minister of MAHUD which is in charge of the local bodies.

Following the protest at Keishampat, similar demonstration was held at Bishnupur bazar, Mayang Imphal, Thoubal bazar, Lamlai bazar and Sekmai bazar.

Under the aegis of the All manipur Councils and Nagar Panchayat Joint Action Committee, (barring IMC) 150 out of the 276 Councillors submitted their resignation papers to the CM today evening.

The rest will follow suit soon.

Even as the Councillors met the Chief Minister and submitted their resignation papers, the power and authority to be devolved to them was not discussed on the ground the Government has already started discussing it.

A member of the JAC informed that no information has been received from the side of the militants with regard to the demands served by them on the local bodies.

The UG groups have been pressuring the ULBs to grant the contracts for constructing low cost latrines for the public.
