Imphal, July 23 2019: Hosts Sainik School Imphal emerged victorious and underlined their dominance in various events at the East Zone Sainik School Sports and Cultural Festival/ Championship today.

Sainik School Imphal's U-17 and U- 14 boys football teams, volleyball team, basketball team were able to stretch their winning runs except the hockey team which went down by 0-1 goal to Sainik School Purulia.

Day 2 Events
Football
Sainik School Imphal continued their fine form at the U-17 boys football competition with yet another huge win today against.

Suraj was in prolific form today and scored 5 goals alone to help steer the hosts to a comprehensive 11-1 win against Sainik School Purulia today.

Suraj opened up the scoring in the 4th minute of the match before pumping in for more goals in the 24th, 34th, 38 th and the 66th minute of the match.

Sainik School Imphal's Joyprakash also followed suit and completed his treble in the 69th minute after earlier goals in the 23rd and the 55 th minute while his team mate Rameshchandra (19', 67') added two goals and James netted a single (47') to set up the big win.

The consolation goal for the West Bengal side was scored by Akash Sadar in the 11th minute of the match.

In another match of the same competition, Sainik School Punglwa sealed a slender 1-0 victory over Sainik School Goalpara courtesy of Hikupu Awomi's strike in the 16 th minute.

Meanwhile in the U-14 boys competition, Sainik School Imphal trounced Sainik School East Siang, Arunachal Pradesh by 10-0 goals riding on 5-goal feat by SL Lalsanglen (5', 13', 20', 26', 35'), treble by N Jemson (10', 30', 52') and singles by N Chentan (17') and T Nikhil (22').Sainik School Goalpara on the other hand managed a 2-0 win against Sainik School Punglwa as Sulvan Langslieba (13', 50') hit a brace.

Volleyball
Sainik School Imphal today earned a 2-1 set win against Sainik School Punglwa which suffered a straight set defeat in the hands of Sainik School Purulia yesterday in the opening match.

Sainik School started the game on a positive note but conceded the second set before holding their nerves in the last set and cruise to a 25-21, 19-25, 27-25.Sainik School Purulia also kept their momentum intact with another straight set (25-19, 25-15) victory against Sainik School Goalpara in another match of the day.

Basketball
Sainik School Purulia went down to Sainik School Punglwa by a close 59-60 margin in a keenly contested basketball match of the day while Sainik School Imphal extended their winning way with a 78-41 win against Sainik School Goalpara in another fixture of the day.

Sardar Patel (19 pts), Saurav Kumar (17 pts) shone for the Sainik School Purulia to make it 59 points but their efforts fell short as Punglwa players made a concerted effort to seal the victory by 1 points.

Shera and Lhousievituo Zhunyu scored 17 points each for the Nagaland side in this match which also saw Imtimongla (8 pts), Alen Peter (2 pts), Ongkhambi Angh (2 pts), Sitho Keno (4 pts) and Rojat Rathi (3 pts) score to help their team earn a 60-59 win.

Sainik School Imphal on the other hand rode on brilliant 29 points made by Th Ronel and 25 point feat by S Pareihanba Luwang to seal a 78-41 victory against Sainik School Goalpara.

L Jasubanta Singh (4 pts), K Lalthazuala (12 pts), K Tlangthan Mawia (8 pts) and Timothy C Lalriinchha (2 points) also scored for the Manipur side to set up the second win at the competition.

Hockey
Sainik School Imphal's hockey team had a poor start to the competition as they suffered a 0-1 loss to Sainik School Purulia in the opening match today.

The only goal that separated that two sides was scored by Shobam Singha in the 18th minute of the match off a penalty corner.

Purulia team earned 5 penalty corners in this match against one awarded to the Imphal side.

The second match of the competition saw Sainik School Goalpara thrash Sainik School Punglwa by 7-0 goals.

Chanshyam top- scored with 4 goals including a penalty in this match (9', 15', 19', 31') while Dhirty Raj (23' penalty corner, 37') and Surjeet Kumar (39') made up the remaining scores in this one sided match.
