State Level Boxing Championship begins: RS Thotyola, Ch Khaleng of Ukhrul enter final

The State Level Boxing Championship 2019 for Junior Boys & Girl and Men & Women organized under the aegis of Manipur Amateur Boxing Association (MABA) kicked off today at the Boxing Arena, Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.
Boxers from different parts of the districts will battle it out in different weight categories for the top prizes from September 19 to 22 .

The opening function was graced by IK Muivah, IGP (Administration), Manipur as chief guest, M Modhushudan Singh, Chief Advisor MABA as functional president and Kh Shashikumar Mangang, Addl Director, Directorate of Health Services as guest of honour.
Ph Dhanajit Singh, Assn Gen Secy MABA, delivered the welcome address while S Chandrakanta Singh, Secy Gen MABA delivered the keynote speech.
Speaking at the occasion, chief guest IK Muivah IGP (Administration), Manipur said that the competition level for boxing in the State is already high as the boxers are very enthusiastic and motivated while adding that talent hunt need to be done from rural areas of the state to identify the real talents.
He further stated that the pleasant climate of the State throughout the year as well as the competitive nature of the people will make them shine in martial arts such as boxing, UFC, Karate and Taekwondo while urging the functionaries of MABA to practice impartiality and keep aside nepotism and favoritism so that the boxers could shine in international competitions.
On the first day of the competion, M Nganthoiba representating Senapati district defeated Ph Chingtam Meitei from Imphal East in Junior Boys (50 Kg) quarterfinal bout, while L Nongshaba of Tengnoupal district outclassed M Ojit Meitei of Thoubal in the same weight category.
In another quarterfinal match, Th Amitkumar from Bishnupur beat Bitny Anal.
Whereas in Junior Boys (52 Kg) quarterfinal bout, Imphal East players K Kiran, P Kingson Singh overwhelmed their opponents Yuhlunge Chothe of Kangpokpi, Julet Singh of Thoubal respectively while N Priyobarta of Bishnupur thrashed W Malemnganba of Chandel.
Th Raspiyar of Thoubal moved ahead defeating W Nganba of Kakching in Junior Boys (54 Kg) quarterfinal bout while L Edison Singh of Imphal West downed Athouba Laiphrakpam of Imphal East in the same category.
In Junior Boys (57 Kg) quarterfinal bout, Themchuingam Kasar of Ukhrul defeated Kh Topten Meitei while Th Leninson Meitei of Imphal East overcame L Boyai Meitei of Kakching.
In another quarterfinal bout, Lucky John of Senapati beat Th Allen Singh of Bishnupur while M Chungneireng Kom of Churachandpur punched his way to semifinal with convincing win over L Roshan Meitei of Imphal East.
In Junior Boys (60 Kg) quarterfinal bout, N Rohit Singh of Bishnupur advanced to semifinal beating N Khambaton of Kakching while L Kaminikumar of Ukhrul thrashed Kh Rohit Singh of Imphal East to book a place in the semifinal.
In Men's Youth (57 Kg) quarterfinal bout, Khochung Wanchunglian of Tengnoupal sealed a place in the semifinal with a win over N Amarjit Singh of Bishnupur while Kamtinthang Kipgen of Kangpokpi defeated L John Singh of Thoubal whereas L Rohit Singh of Imphal East downed O Yaikhomba of Churanchandpur in the same category.
In Men's Youth (60 Kg) quarterfinal bout, K Luckysun Singh of Imphal East had an easy win over T Letkhoson Haokip of Chandel while L Johnson Singh of Bishnupur sailed through to semifinal beating L Gyaneshwor Singh of Bishnupur.
In Men's Youth (69 Kg) quarterfinal bout, Y Shantanu Singh outdone Sh Gemochand Singh of Bishnupur.
In Senior Men's Youth (63 Kg) quarterfinal bout, H Baskar Singh of MPSC overwhelmed K Rishikanta Singh of Thoubal while H Nandakumar of Imphal East defeated Kh Yaiphaba of Bishnupur.
In Women's Sub-Junior (40 Kg) semifinal bout, Thangjam Sneha Chanu of Imphal East reached final defeating Esther Neipineng of Churachandpur while Ngangom Luxmi Devi of Bishnupur beat Ph Renuka Devi of Imphal East to sail through to final.
In another Sub-Junior (40 Kg 2005-06) semifinal bout, E Thoicha Devi of Thoubal defeated Lily Kamei of Tamenglong to meet Easther L Baite of Churachandpur who had defeated Leiyarin Shaiza of Ukhrul in the semifinal bout.
L Bishorita Devi (Imphal East) will meet N Kalpana Devi (Thoubal) in Women Sub-Junior 43 Kg gold medal bout while Th Apsara Devi (Bishnupur) will meet M Luxmi Devi (Kakching) in Women Sub Junior 46 Kg final.
In Women Sub-Junior 49 Kg semifinal bouts, S Surmala Chanu of Bishnupur beat Gloria Karong of Kangpokpi and Kh Ringeichim Aimol of Tengnoupal defeated Ch Poreilembi Chanu of Imphal West to reach the final.
G Pamei (Kangpokpi) and Th Prameshwori Devi (Imphal West) will battle it out in Women 52 Kg final and L Christina Devi (Imphal-West) will face Timeichon Kasomwoshi (Ukhrul) for the gold medal in Junior Women 48 Kg category.
Kh Monika Devi (Bishnupur) and S Chanu Wanglenthoibi (Thoubal) will fight for the gold in Elite Women 48 Kg final bout.
Other boxers who have reached the final in their respective categories are Ch Khaleng from Ukhrul (Junior Women 48 Kg); Athiphro Genevieve from Senapati (Junior Women 52 Kg); Thounaojam Eliza Devi representing Imphal West (Junior Women 48 Kg); RS Thotyola of Ukhrul (Youth Women 57 Kg) and Kh Binita Devi of Bishnupur (Elite Women 48 Kg) .
