Encroachers atop Naga Nullah evicted

Imphal West district police personnel carried out a massive eviction of the illegally constructed permanent structures above Naga Nullah, in the presence of District Commissioner Naorem Praveen, today afternoon.
The eviction drive was carried out as per the notice issued by the authority concerned to remove the illegally constructed shops and other permanent structures in the area.
Before the shops were destroyed using JCB excavators, the encroached land above Naga Nullah was measured by the authority of Settlement in the presence of the DC and other Executive Magistrates of Imphal West.
The shop owners were also informed to remove their belongings which were being placed in front of their respective shops and other business establishments, using loud speakers by police.

The destruction of shops started at around 3.30 pm today from Khoyathong crossing upto SSS Hotel.
Briefing media persons, Traffic SP K Sarma stated that the eviction drive was carried out as the area had been approved for use as a public parking lot by the Traffic Regulation and Parking Committee (TRPC) chaired by the Chief Minister.
The eviction drive has been conducted legally under the District Administration, the SP said, appealing all not to open any kind of shops in any area without obtaining permission and authorized shops license.
She continued that eviction of illegal structure above the drain and in public premises will be carried out at Uripok and Keishamthong area as well and necessary warnings have already been issued to remove the illegally constructed shops as well as shops opened without obtaining license.
To prevent any kind of unwanted incident during the eviction, a large number of police personnel were deployed in the area.
