Avoid single-use plastics for clean environment, says Nemcha Kipgen

As part of the BJP's 'Seva Saptah' (Service Week) campaign to commemorate Prime Minister Narendra Modi 69th birthday, an awareness programme on avoiding single-use plastics and promotion of water conservation was held at Keithelmanbi Government High School on September 17 .
Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister, Nemcha Kipgen graced the awareness programme organized by BJP Sadar Hills as chief guest in the presence of BJP Sadar Hills president Thangjamang Kipgen, ADC Sadar Hills Executive Members, BP Vikas Basnet and other members of ADC Sadar Hills - Lamminthang Kipgen, Seikholal Haokip, Sagar Gewali and Milan Pradhan.
District BJP leaders, Mandal leaders and more than 400 high school students from Keithelmanbi area and Champhai sub-division, members of civil bodies including KWA, KYA and village authority of Keithelmanbi also attended the function.
Addressing the gathering, Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister Nemcha Kipgen said that plastic takes thousands of years to break down.
"It is not just the accumulation of plastics that harms the environment, it is also the fragments and toxins released during photo-decomposition that pollute our soil and water," she said advising students and the gathering to shun use of plastics for a clean environment.
BJP Sadar Hills leaders also visited District Hospital Kangpokpi and distributed fruits to patients and wish them on Prime Minister's birthday.
