Poumai Naga Cultural Day celebrated

Senapati, January 23 2024: Poumai Naga Cultural Day was celebrated at Tungjoy village as a part of the ongoing 23rd Poumai Naga Tsiidoumai Me (PNTM) Tournament 2024 yesterday.

The event was graced by chief host, J Kumo Sha, MLA, 47-Karong AC as the chief guest and Medovi Rhi, Naga Students Federation president as the functional president.

Halunii Khana of the Program Committee in his welcome note, appealed to all to embrace the richness and diversity of their culture and urged all to join together and celebrate the strength of unity through the celebration of its cultural heritage.

Speaking at the occasion, J Kumo Sha asserted that unity and togetherness is the strength of a community.

Highlighting the importance of preserving one's culture, the MLA stressed on the need of teaching mother's tongue to promote the indigenous language.

He further maintained that mass participation is of vital importance for the upliftment of a community.

The MLA also spoke of developmental projects in the region.

Temjen Imna Along, Minister of Tourism & Higher Education, Government of Nagaland graced as the guest of honour of the event and extended new year greetings to all.

The Minister stated that nurturing the talents of the youths is the need of the hour as they are the future pillars.

Stressing on the need of preserving the unique Naga traditional heritage passed down from the forefathers, the The Minister urged all to remain united and integral in their thought process.

In line with the theme of the 23rd PNTM Tournament, 'Nurturing Talents', the Minister appealed to the young players to showcase their strength through patience, hard work and consistency.

He also prayed for restoration of peace and normalcy in Manipur in view of the prevailing tense situation.

NSF president Medovi Rhi while speaking at the occasion termed 'PNTM as one of the strongest federating units and major tribe among the Nagas' .

He said that the PNTM always stood firm when it come to the welfare of the students community and Naga people in general.

The platform has nurtured so many great Naga leaders as well as induced provoking school of thought for the upliftment and betterment of the society, he said .

The NSF president also acknowledged PNTM as one of the vital pillar in the historic journey of the NSF and a conscious keeper of the Naga people. He also urged all to adapt, involve and push oneself beyond one's limitation in line with the changing time and circumstance.

A traditional war-like game was displayed by the host village, Tungjoy followed by indigenous Naga wrestling competitions in the evening.
