Properties worth over Rs.12 crores damaged by fires in 2010

Imphal, January 13, 2011: Properties worth over Rs.12,35,82,499 were reduced to ashes during 2010 even as Manipur Fire Service could save properties worth over Rs.26,20,30,693. A report from the Fire Service Department said that during the period from January 1 to December 31, 2010, personnel deployed in various fire service stations across the state were able to save the lives of at least 10 persons from fires including those who were saved from drowning.

Two persons died of burns while seven persons died from drowning.

A maximum case of fires were recorded with the Imphal fire service station which is also the headquarters of the fire service department.

A total of 113 cases of fires including 29 major fires were reported in the areas under the jurisdiction of Imphal fire service station.

This station was able to save properties worth over rs.20,20,98,743 from being reduced to ashes.

However, they were not able to save properties worth over Rs.5,03,69,757. The fire service station at Moirang in Bishnupur district confronted six fire cases including one major incident.

In the fire related tragedies, properties worth Rs.17,77,200 were reduced to ashes while fire personnel could save properties worth over Rs.93,77,40. The Kakching Fire Service Station responded to nine fire incidents including one major and three medium scale incidents.

Properties worth Rs.10,16,200 were damaged while properties worth Rs.61,9,800 were saved by the fire fighters.

Only one fire incident occurred under the jurisdiction of Singhat Fire Service Station of Churachandpur district.

In that incident properties worth Rs.42,000 were burned while the station was able to save properties worth rs.3,000. Sugnu Fire Service Station registered four cases of fires in 2010.In the cases properties worth Rs.35,02,500 wee destroyed while the station managed to save properties worth Rs.6,33,500. Five fires were reported to the Chandel Fire Service Station.

The fires destroyed properties worth Rs.20,400.The station was able to save Rs.31,01,100, an official statement said.

Kangpokpi Fire Service Station confronted three cases of fires.

One of them was a major incident in which properties worth Rs.56,66,500 were saved but properties worth Rs.54,83,500 were destroyed by the fire.

The Mayang Imphal Fire Service also responded to three fire cases including a major one.

In the incidents, properties worth over Rs.86,000 were damaged and properties worth Rs.10,6,000 were saved.

A drowning case could not be reached in time and the victim lost his life.

Senapati Fire Service Station responded to 14 incidents, out of which five were major and four were medium, destroying properties worth Rs.1,96,60,300.They could save properties worth Rs.57,75,700, an official report added.

Seven fires were faced by the fire station in Ukhrul.

Properties worth Rs.23,762,592 were destroyed by the fires even though the station managed to save properties worth Rs.26,64,000.Moreh Fire Service Station saved properties worth Rs.7,70,000 from six fire incidents.

Out of the six incidents three were major ones and properties worth Rs.81,82,200 were destroyed , the source added.

Tamenglong Police Station recorded one fire in 2010 which reduced properties worth Rs.74,000 to ashes.

The station manage to save properties worth 2,26,000. Churachandpur Fire Service Station responded to 22 incidents including nine major ones reducing properties worth Rs.1,11,64,000 into ashes even though it saved properties worth Rs.2,75,33,000.One person died from drowning, the report said.

The number of fires responded to by Bishnupur Fire Service Station was 11 which included three major fires.

Properties worth Rs.13,13,693 were damaged but properties worth Rs.6,12,105 were saved.

Jiribam Fire Service Station responded to six incidents including four major ones.

In the incidents properties worth Rs.12,77,44,000 were lost while the station managed to save Rs.88,88,600 in properties.

Two persons were saved by the personnel of this station from being burned but drowning claimed the lives of seven persons.

Thoubal Fire Service Station responded to 36 fire incidents causing loss of properties worth Rs.26,31,700.The station saved properties worth Rs.53,72,700 from fires, the report added.
