Imphal, June 13 2023:
The Manipur State Panchayat Parishad (MSPP) organised a sit-in demonstration at Yaipha Thouni Community Hall at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai on Tuesday in solidarity with the victims of Kuki militants' atrocities.
Speaking on the sideline of the sit-in, MSPP spokesperson Jashwant Chirom said Kuki militant's attacks on Meitei villages have killed many and displaced thousands of people, who are now taking shelter at relief camps.
Extending sympathy to the displaced people and sharing their pain, Jashwant said the conflict has also affected the poor and students.
Even after a month, the Government is unable to end the conflict, he said.
If the Government fails to take up swift and effective measures to bring about a solution to the conflict, the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) of Manipur will be forced to collectively travel to Delhi and express their dissent there, he added.
The demonstrators held placards demanding peace, implementation of NRC (National Register of Citizens) in Manipur, abrogation of SoO (Suspension of Operation), deployment of State security forces in all vulnerable areas and protection of State's integrity.
A memorandum demanding a solution to the current crisis will be submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 14, said the Manipur State Panchayat Parishad (MSPP) .
