Imphal, June 13 2023:
Highlighting the plight of the Meitei villagers living in the foothills and remote areas of the State, the South East Asia Cultural Organisation (SEACO) has called for deployment of adequate State security forces in all such villages to ensure their protection.
In a statement issued by Thangjam Inaocha, secretary publicity SEACO shared that these villagers are facing extreme adversities due to the eruption of violence since May 3 .
Commenting on the atrocities inflicted by the Kuki militants under SoO on these innocent villagers, SEACO held the State and Central Government responsible for the ongoing conflict and appealed to them to contain the Kuki militants.
Stating that the crisis will not be resolved until the Kuki militants are suppressed, SEACO opined that similar conflicts might erupt in the future if this issue is not addressed now.
Further, SEACO urged the Central and State Government to strictly monitor the fourteen designated camps of the Kuki SoO militants and seize their arms and ammunition.
Acknowledging the suffering of the approximately 50,648 displaced persons sheltering in roughly 349 relief camps scattered across the State, SEACO appealed to the Government to draft a proper policy-programme to address their issues.
Simply offering them temporary relief measures cannot be a permanent solution, SEACO said.
