Imphal, June 13 2023:
After the Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) decided not to join Peace Committee set up by the Central Government, Kangleipak Lamjing Apunba Meira Lup (KANGLAMEI) has followed suit.
KANGLAMEI's president Y Leirikleima, in a statement, said the body welcomes the Government's initiative to restore peace and normalcy in the State which has witnessed an unprecedented violence, arson, destruction of properties perpetrated by narco-terrorists since May 3 last.
However, the body (KANGLAMEI) was taken by surprise when a 51-member peace committee headed by the Governor as the chairman came out on June 11 with the body president among the members (sl 33), the KANGLAMEI president said.
Her name was enlisted into the committee without any prior information or consultation with her or with the body and the step has greatly undermined the faith the body had in the Government, she said.
Endorsing COCOMI's stance on the matter, KANGLAMEI has also decided to refrain from being a part of the peace committee for the time being, the statement continued.
