Imphal, June 27 2023:
The Manipur Remote Sensing Application Centre (MARSAC) has issued a clarification regarding a report carried by this paper on "omission" of Sugnu and Sekmai in the Manipur map it published in 2022 .
In a statement issued to the media by the Director of MARSAC, O Nodiachanda Singh, it said the places, Sugnu, Serou and Sekmai were not visible on the map as it is a small scale map with the scale of 1:2,70,000 (1 cm = 3 Km) .
Display of all villages is not possible in small scale maps due to densely located villages/congestion of spatial features.
Keishamthong, Thangmeiband, Lamlai are a few examples which are also not seen in the map.
Similarly, S Bauljang and Bungmol of Churachandpur district are not visible in the map, said MARSAC.
All villages are visible in large scale maps.
Sugnu and Serou villages in Kakching and Sekmai village in Imphal West are prominently visible in the District Maps prepared by MARSAC.
Care will be taken to reflect all major, important villages as far as possible in future publication, it said.
