Large cache of arms seized in last 48 hrs

Imphal, October 20 2023: Continuing with the series of search operations launched in the wake of the large scale violence witnessed in the State, security forces carried out search operations in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Imphal West, Kakching, Bishnupur, Kangpokpi, Thoubal and Churachandpur districts today too.

In the course of the search operations, one SMG carbine, one 9 mm pistol (local made), two HE hand grenades, three country made bombs and one Pompi were recovered from Chalbung village under Sapermeina police station, Kangpokpi district, informed a press release issued by the Police Control Room.

It said that the situation in the State during the last 24 hours was tense but under control with sporadic incidents of firing.

It also appealed to the public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or near security forces immediately.

A day earlier, a large consignment of arms, ammunition and explosives were seized from Wakan, Shantipur and Khamenlok under Sagolmang police station in Imphal East, said Police Control Room (PCR) in a statement.

As per the statement of PCR, 36 arms, 1615 pieces of ammunition and explosives and 132 equipment were seized from different Imphal East during search operations.

"Search operations were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Kakching, Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts.

During the operations, the huge cache of arms, ammunition and equipment were recovered from Wakan, Shantipur and Khamenlok ridges under Sagolmang PS, Imphal East district as follows:
