Imphal, October 20 2023:
A Meitei Pangal driver being engaged privately in the work of BSF was beaten black and blue by a group of goons highly suspected to be Kukis at Moreh last night.
The driver has been identified as Moinam Farukh (30), s/o Tayeb Ali of Thoubal Keibung Mayai Leikai.
Reportedly, the driver was assaulted so severely that he couldn't speak after he was beaten and manhandled by about five persons who wielded heavy objects.
The driver sustained injuries on the head and jaw and he is undergoing treatment at the general ward of Remedy Hospital at Konung Mamang.
Farukh was hired to transport BSF personnel to Moreh from Imphal about three months back and he has been staying at Moreh College since then with the BSF.
Speaking to the media, uncle of the injured driver Moinam Akbar said that Farukh has been at Moreh for over 110 days.
Claiming that Farukh was assaulted while he was out with a BSF officer for some business in a Mahindra Scorpio at around 7.30 pm, Akbar continued that the BSF officer went to meet some persons about two Kms ahead of Moreh College.
Continuing that Farukh was interrogated by about five persons who couldn't speak proper Manipuri while he was waiting for the officer at around 8 pm, Akbar said that the group asked Farukh why he was at the place in a harsh tone.
The group then snatched the phone of Farukh and dropped it deliberately before assaulting him using heavy objects over some trivial matter, Akbar claimed.
Farukh dragged himself to the vehicle he brought after the goons left the place and drove inside the camp of Assam Rifles at Moreh , he claimed and added that Farukh fell unconscious while he was at the Assam Rifles camp.
Maintaining that Farukh was taken to RIMS by two drivers at around 12.20 am, Akbar continued that Farukh sustained injuries on the shoulder, jaw, head and other body parts.
The Government should take the matter very seriously, he said and claimed that the BSF officer who was with Farukh hasn't said a word about the incident which is unfortunate.
Urging the Government to arrest the miscreants who assaulted Farukh at the earliest, Akbar cautioned that the family will consult with the civil society organisations and launch agitations if the demand is not entertained.
