Training programme on fish, crab farming held

"Farmers' Training Programme on Scientific Paddy cum Fish and Crabs Farming" was held on Friday at Auditorium Hall of Jadonang Memorial College Longmai-3, Noney Dist HQ.
The programme was jointly organised by School of Agri and Allied Science Jadonang Memorial College Longmai, and sponsored by Manipur International University (MIU), Imphal.
The programme began with a welcome address by Khuigai Kamei, principal Jadonang Memorial College, followed by lectures from resource persons Lungkhong Riamei, technical officer KVK Tupul, and Khinlak Gangmei, assistant professor of zoology department, Jadonang Memorial College.
The two experts highlighted the benefits of paddy field fishery culture, saying that this type of cultivation needs feasible site selection such as regular water sources, good soil and a free zone from chemical contaminated area.
If such projects were successful, the farmers would receive a double profit.
Crab farming can also done in the hills by preserving a specific area where a variety of crabs choose to dwell.
Crabs are now in high demand for hotels, restaurants, and food stands, among others, they further explained.
Dr Charaibou Daimei, assistant professor in the department of anthropology at Jadonang Memorial College Longmai, gave a vote of thanks to close the programme.
