Imphal, October 20 2023:
A civilian driver engaged for the transportation of a deputy commandant of the Border Security Force (BSF) has been hospitalised after unknown miscreants thrashed him at M Chanou village under Moreh PS on Thursday.
The injured driver has been identified as Moinam Faruk (30) s/o Tayab Ali of Thoubal Keibung Mayai Leikai.
Faruk sustained injuries on his chin, head and back in the thrashing.
He was first taken for treatment at Moreh Primary Health Centre and later referred to RIMS Hospital for further treatment only to be shifted to Remedy Hospital due to seriousness of the injuries.
Faruk is presently facing difficulty in speaking due to suspected fracture in chin area.
In this regard, Faruk's family informed that since the May 3 conflict broke out, he has been engaged in transporting central forces in bus belonging to one Heibokmayum Sagir of Lilong Mairenkhun.
He has been tasked with driving BSF personnel to and fro from Moreh College for the past four months from July.
On Thursday around 8 pm, BSF deputy CO Rathore took Faruk to drive a Scorpio for some work.
After arriving at M Chanou village, Rathore alighted from the vehicle and went into a house, while he (Faruk) waited inside the vehicle.
While he was waiting for the deputy CO, around three people came up to him and questioned why he had parked the vehicle in the area.
They then dragged him down from the vehicle and started beating him.
The three people allegedly belonged to tribal community as they spoke Meeteilon with heavy tribal accent.
Later, the three people dumped Faruk and left the spot.
Despite the serious injuries, Faruk drove the vehicle towards Moreh College and parked close to the central personnel deployed there.
The BSF personnel immediately took him to Moreh PHC around 9.30 pm, before taking him to RIMS on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.
On Friday, he was again referred to Remedy Hospital.
Faruk's family has strongly condemned the assault on an innocent driver and urged the authority concerned to apprehend the culprits involved in the incident.
