Imphal, October 20 2023:
Asserting that state security forces are already stationed in Moreh and are looking after the law-and-order situation in the border town, chief minister N Biren has stated that the contentions that state forces have not been given power is false and baseless.
Responding to queries of media persons on his way to attend the swearing in ceremony of Justice Siddharth Mridul as the Chief Justice of Manipur High Court at Raj Bhavan, here, on Friday, Biren said that it has been wrongly reported in the local media that the state forces in Moreh are bereft of any power.
Informing that there are 90 IRB personnel under the command of 5th IRB commandant H Balaram and an other 100 Manipur police commandos under Special Commando SP Th Krishnatombi in Moreh at present, the chief minister said that the media persons of the state should cross check their sources before publishing sensitive reports as such uncorroborated reports could mislead the masses and create unwanted problems in the society.
Commenting on the current crisis in the state, CM Biren said that the situation has calmed down now and peace has prevailed.
We all should take equal responsibility in restoring total peace in the state as was seen in Manipur before the eruption of the ethnic clash, Biren stressed.
He also stated that he would not compromise as and when threat is posed to the territorial integrity of Manipur and would even fight constitutionally, if necessary.
The state government is also planning to provide service allowance to the police commandos who are in the frontline, he conveyed.
While revealing that the government initially planned to hike ration allowance for police personnel to Rs 1000, he said limiting the hike to only Rs 500 is in consideration of the weak economy of the state.
