Imphal, September 19 2012:
In support of the nationwide 12-hour general strike being called by the left and right parties tomorrow in protest against the UPA government's decision on diesel price, LPG cylinders and FDI in multi-brand retail, BJP, Manipur State Unit has also called a bandh in Manipur.
Speaking to media persons, Shantikumar, President, BJP, Manipur State Unit stated that with the increase in the price of diesel, the transporters have also increased transportation charge of all the essential commodities, thereby creating problem to common people.
With inclusion of FDI in multi-brand retail, it would also give a big blow to small time businessmen.
A whole lot of funds are to be drained away to foreign investors.
Moreover, with just 6 gas cylinders to be made available to the public at subsidized rates and selling of the excess through retail at Rs 350 per cylinder would only do good to businessmen while giving a huge burden to the common people, Shantikumar contended.
Considering these ill effects of the decision taken by UPA government, BJP, Manipur State Unit would be joining the nationwide general strike, Shantikumar stated, while appealing to the people for support and co-operation.
Shantikumar Sharma contended that since Trinamool Congress has withdrawn support, the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre has been reduced to a minority.
There is every likelihood of a mid-term poll and the BJP is all set for it.
He further informed that there are altogether 542 seats in Lok Sabha of which Congress got 205 seats.
The Trinamool Congress has 19 seats, DMK has 18 seats, Samajwadi Party has 22 seats, Bahujan Samaj Party has 21 seats, NCP has 9 seats and the remaining to other parties.
