Hearing RIMS docs, two cops, one civilian cross examined
Inquiry Commission On Alleged Extra-Judicial Killings Continues

Continuing the hearing on the alleged extra-judicial killings of six persons, the Supreme Court instituted, Inquiry Commission today cross examined two doctors of the Department of Forensic Sciences, RIMS, two police personnel and one civilian.
At the instance of the Supreme Court, the Inquiry Commission is probing the killing of Md Azad Khan, Nameirakpam Nobo Meitei, Nameirakpam Govind Meitei, Khumbongmayum Orsonjit, Chongtham Umakanta and Akoijam Priyobarta.
The two doctors include an Assistant Professor and a Demonstrator cum Police Surgeon.
Answering the queries put forth by the counsels in connection with the killing of Md Azad Khan, the Assistant Professor said that no projectile was found on the body of the victim.
He also informed the Commission that no portions of the skin were sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory and admitted that the calibre of the projectile or weapon could not be ascertained by examining the wound.
The doctor further said that the time the body of Azad Khan was brought to RIMS morgue has been entered in the post mortem transit register but added that he does not know whether the name of the victim has been entered in the register or not.
However it is the normal practise to enter the names of the victims in the register, he added.
The Assistant Professor also informed the Commission that he performed the post mortem examination on the bodies of Nameirakpam Nobo and Nameirakpam Govind.
On the case of Chongtham Umakanta and Elangbam Kiranjit, the Assistant Professor informed that he conducted the post mortem examination.
The Demonstrator cum Police Surgeon, on being quizzed in connection with the death of Khumbongmayum Orsonjit, said that he conducted the post mortem examination in line with the guidelines issued by the National Human Rights Commission.
To further questions from the Counsels, the doctor replied that he had performed post mortem examination, related to encounter cases earlier too.
The post mortem examination was conducted on the basis of the report submitted by the IO concerned and under Section 174 of the CrPC, he added.
On being quizzed by the Counsels, the doctor replied that no alive person is admitted to the morgue and added that he has no knowledge whether Orsonjit was dead or alive at 2.30 pm of March 16, 2010, while informing that the post mortem was conducted on March 19, 2010 .
Havildar of 6 MR (then attached to the Imphal West police commando), on being asked if it was true that Orsonjit was picked up near OK Hotel in Imphal and later shot dead in between Tharoijam and Taothong under Lamshang police station, the police official denied the allegations.
