Imphal, June 28 2013 :
Members at the ongoing Manipur Legislative Assembly have vehemently condemned the bomb blast triggered last night by unidentified miscreants at a rented room in Uripok Tourangbam Leikai.
Two non-Manipuris were killed and four others suffered grievous wounds in the hand-grenade blast.
On behalf of the members, Home Minister Gaikhangam condemned the attack against innocent civilians as ghastly and unjustifiable.
Presenting a statement on the incident in today's session of the Assembly, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam said that a case has been registered at Imphal police station while the injured persons are undergoing treatment at hospital.
He further informed the members that police have launched investigation along with search operation to nab the culprits.
Meanwhile, Opposition member P Brojen opined that members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly need to seriously ponder what measures should be initiated regarding disparaging reports published by a local daily on the issue of cancelling MBBS/BDS 2013 entrance examination.
Reacting strongly against the said newspaper report in which Ministers/MLAs were branded as irresponsible and corrupt and held responsible for thousands of MBBS/BDS candidates left in the lurch, the MSCP MLA from Wangjing-Tentha AC suggested that the House take serious note of the allegations.
Apart from Brojen's comment during the zero hour session of the assembly today, NCP legislator L Ibomcha sought status quo report on the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh's announcement that Mapal Kangjeibung (Palace Compound) would be developed as a world heritage site.
Ibomcha reminded that the CM made the announcement during the closing ceremony of the 2012 Sangai (Tourism) Festival held at the historic location.
