Imphal, June 27 2023: A 50-year-old man was hurt when a GI pipe, he was trying to cut, exploded at his residence at Pishum Oinam Leikai under Singjamei police station today at around 2 pm.

The man identified as Salam Lolitchandra, son of S Ibomcha, was rushed to Kripadashini Advanced Hospital and surgeries were conducted.

He sustained injuries on both his legs.

According to the family members, Salam Lolitchandra was holding the used GI (galvanised iron) pipe and another person was cutting it for use in fencing.

He had bought the used GI pipe today morning from a shop located at Langthabal Lep Awang Leikai for fencing his residential compound.

It is highly suspected that the used GI pipe might have been fitted with some explosive materials.

Singjamei police rushed to the incident site and registered a case for investigation.

Police has also picked up the GI pipe for examination by the State forensic experts.

Soon after the incident, S Lolitchandra was rushed to the Kripadashini Advanced Hospital at Palace Compound.

Surgeries were conducted today and he is being kept under observation at the Surgery Ward.
