Imphal, April 26:
Director of Enforcement Directorate Panda who left Imphal on yesterday after a two-day visit had taken serious note of the failure of the State Government and its machineries in taking up action against those whose wealth are disproportionate to their known sources of income.
According to a reliable source, the Director of Enforcement Directorate stayed at Imphal from April 24 and 25 to find out why the State Government and its machineries including Income Tax Department and Police Department have not yet taken up any steps toward raiding residences of all those who are amassing wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income in the State.
Taking serious note of the matter, the Director, before leaving Imphal yesterday made it known to the Government that a special team would be despatched to Imphal to do the needful in this regard.
The source further disclosed that the State Government on its part has registered so far around 5 to 7 cases under the Money Laundering Act against some persons who have accumulated wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income.
In view of the objection being raised from certain quarters to the proposed raids, the State Government has also formed a party to find out why objections are being raised by some influential people and their interest thereof in these cases, the source added.
