'Insincere' youth asked to shape State's future

Imphal, March 04 2014 : Inspite of observing that present day youths lack sincerity and work culture, resource persons deli-berating at a two-day State Youth Convention on the theme 'Youth for Social Change' called upon the younger gene-ration to contribute their mite in weeding out the malaise of corruption to usher a progress Manipuri society.

Opening function of the Convention organised by Ma-nipur State Council of All India Youth Federation was held today at Rup Mahal Theatre, Imphal.

Elaborating on the convention theme, social scientist Dr Dhanabir Laishram opined that lacking qualities of sincerity and commitment among the present day youths have been some crucial factors for the Manipuri society not making much headway towards a progressive and vibrant society.

While involvement of the masses is inevitable to expose Government misdemeanours it is the pro-active role of the youth that would be decisive in shaping future of the society and categorically convey- ing to all concerned that the people cannot be taken for granted, maintained Dr Dhanabir.

Speaking at the occasion, Senior Citizens for Society Manipur general secretary L Sadananda prevailing upon the younger generation to shoulder the responsibility of ensu- ring that Manipur move in the right direction also cautioned that tendency of the youth to ignore impeding predicament will only lead to further struggle for the Manipuris, socially as well as politically.

As a guest of honour, All Manipur bar Association president advocate khaidem Mani said age of an individual do not necessarily determine utility of the person for it is mental sharpness and willpower that eventually prevails over everything else.

Conceding that weeding out corruption from Manipur would be an arduous task without active participation of the younger generation, he said having an Industry Minister in a State without any semblance of industrial development or infrastructure is a clear indication that successive Governments have been duping the people.

Former Minister Dr M Nara in his address conveyed that time has come for one and all to contribute towards socio-economic development of Manipur rather than try to remain in the limelight through infeasible and tall talks.

Opining that if there is transparency in governance then development will naturally follow, he also desired that youths of Manipur strive to compete with their global counterparts and showcase that Manipuris are inferior to none.

Council president Ch Sarat Singh presided over the session.
