Imphal, July 16 2023:
With the woman found shot dead at Keibi Heikakmapal identified as a Maring, several Maring CSOs have condemned the killing in the strongest term and they have also urged the Government to book all the culprits within 48 hours.
Even as the Maring CSOs have strongly condemned the dastardly act, the Heikakmapal Awang Leikai Village Development Committee has resolved to banish three of the accused namely Ongnam Suraj (26) s/o Bihari, Okram Samungou (36) s/o late Ibocha and Ngasepam Angoubi (45) w/o Ng Pate from the locality for good.
The deceased has been identified as M Lucy Maring (57) d/o late M Thoukhal Maring of Narum village, Tengnoupal district.
She was staying at National Games Village Zone-III, Langol.
Maring Uparup Assembly, Maring Napuiya Yinglam and Maring Students Union (MSU) have condemned the killing of Lucy Maring in the strongest term.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here this afternoon on behalf of the three organisations, MSU president Sontrum Dangshawa said that Lucy Maring went missing after she left her Langol home at around 7 am yesterday.
With her husband already dead, Lucy is survived by a daughter who is now reading in Class X .
Lucy Maring was killed even after she identified herself as belonging to the Maring Naga tribe, which every community in Manipur knows, is maintaining neutrality in the present conflict, Sontrun Dangshawa said.
This information was provided to her relatives through mobile phone by a person who was allegedly among the people in whose custody the victim was kept before being killed, he said.
The killing of Lucy Maring is seriously seen as an intentional attempt to provoke the peace loving Maring Naga tribe.
Earlier too, there were such provocative incidents.
An ambulance driver belonging to the Maring tribe was beaten up at Kakching Lamkhai on May 28, and transportation of essential commodities was blocked on several occasions at various places in the valley, Sontrun Dangshawa said.
The recent incidents indicate that residing in the valley has become unsafe for even neutral communities, he lamented.
Meanwhile, a public meeting of the Maring community was held today at Beaulahram under the aegis of the Maring Uparup Assembly, Maring Napuiya Yinglam and Maring Students' Union.
The meeting resolved that the Government should book all the culprits involved in the killing of Lucy Maring within 48 hours.
The public meeting also resolved to seek the intervention of the United Naga Council to bring justice to the case.
If justice is not delivered, further course of agitation would be taken up, the Maring organisations resolved.
Maring Napuiya Yinglam president Hoinu Charanga said that the killing of a woman in such a brutal manner ought to be condemned by one and all.
Killing people without proper verification and investigation would undo all attempts to bring peace and normalcy in the State, she said.
On the other hand, a public meeting was held today at Heikakmapal Awang Leikai Village Development Committee in connection with the killing of Lucy.
The meeting unanimously condemned the killing of Lucy in the strongest term.
The gathering also conveyed solidarity to the bereaved family.
The meeting further resolved to banish Ongnam Suraj (26) s/o Bihari, Okram Samungou (36) s/o late Ibocha and Ngasepam Angoubi (45) w/o Ng Pate from the locality for good.
The three were allegedly involved in the killing of Lucy.
The public meeting also resolved to seek forgiveness from the Maring community on behalf of Heikakmapal Awang Leikai.
The Federation of Haomee has also vehemently condemned the killing of Lucy Maring.
The federation demanded befitting action against all the culprits as per law.
The Volunteers Coordination Committee, Kakching too has condemned the dastardly act of killing M Lucy Maring.
The committee appealed to the authorities concerned to award befitting punishment to all the culprits so as to avert similar inhuman acts in the future.
